Buckner Celebrates their 60th year
|
Prior to being drafted for World War II, Clyde Preston (C.P., Preston or “Buck”) Buckner worked in Eastern North Carolina fixing rebar (reinforcing steel) for concrete decks or substructure for ships under construction. Rumor has it that this is when the idea for a steel erection company was developed. 60 Years ago this month, in September 1947, Buck started a small steel erection company. Today, his family, son-in-law Eddie Williams and Grandson Doug Williams, sit at the “helm” of his “little” company.
What’s now Buckner Companies has branched out to become Buckner Steel Erection and Buckner HeavyLift Cranes. With over 70 in-service cranes, including Liebherr LR1750’s, Manitowoc 888’s and Manitowoc 999’s, Buckner HeavyLift Cranes has crane rentals nationwide – and receiving calls for crane rentals from as far as Brazil.
Buckner Steel Erection is consistently listed with the top 600 specialty contractors by Engineering News and Record. In 2006, ENR listed Buckner Companies as number 314 in the Top 600 Specialty Contractors and number 7 in Steel.
Eddie Williams, our CEO, has mentioned that more and more, when a steel erection company is required for a particular job, be it time sensitive or a structurally complicated erection project, fabricators are saying “That’s a Buckner job”.
Currently, Buckner has over 500 employees – each of them working to keep the competition saying “That’s a Buckner job” ……………..for the next 60 years.
